Summer Programs @ the Library

"First Friday Stories with Big Nic” - Meet country station 105.5 WYZB’s vocal talent, local DJ, Big Nic! Big Nic will read stories in the Youth Services program room at 3:30 p.m. Don’t miss an afternoon of fun and entertaining stories for early elementary age children. Special Summer Events- June 1st—Tampa Taiko Japanese drum show kicks off the summer! Niceville Community Center 10:30 a.m. Free and open to all ages! June 9th—Storyteller, Pat Nease Niceville Community Center 6:30 p.m. Free family program! July 21st—Singer/Songwriter, Kathleen Gibson Niceville City Council Chambers 6:30 p.m. Free family program and Summer finale!


Summer Reading Program- One World, Many Stories summer reading program Open House is June 1st! Pick up reading logs, suggested reading lists and information from 11:30-1:00 p.m. Programs for all ages will be held in the Youth Services program room as follows: Ages 3-Kindergarten: Wed. and Thurs. 10:30-11:00 a.m. Program includes books, poetry, music and a take home craft. June 8th & 9th; “Stories We Tell”
June 15th&16th; “Away We Go!”
June 22nd&23rd; “How We Live”
June 29th&30th; “America the Beautiful”
Grades 1-3: Wed. 12:00-1:00 p.m. Program includes books, poetry, music, games, activities and craft time.

Grades 4 & up: Thurs 1:15-3:00 p.m. “One World, Many Stories through Art” program explores art methods, artists and their artistic voices. Hands-on projects include paper cutting and folding, Japanese woodblock, mosaic and more. Registration is required for this age group only.


Encaustics Art (painting with wax) Demonstration with Sue Tarkin- Niceville Community Center on Friday, June 10 @ 10:30 a.m. This is a Free Program for ages  12 – Adult. Please call the library at 279-4863 ext 1504 to reserve a seat.


Baby Bookworms - This lapsit program consists of music, stories and rhymes especially chosen to build the bond between you and your child. Program is suited for children from birth to age 3. Please meet in YS program room on 2nd & 4th Fridays each month. Prewalkers -9:30, Walkers up to age three-10:30. We will meet June 10th and June 24th.


Niceville Library’s Summer Book Discussion – We will be discussing “House at Riverton” by Kate Morton on Tuesday, June 28, 2011@ 6:00 pm in the library. Limited copies are available at your library. Holds can be placed through the online card catalog.


“When Your Can-Do Can’t Keep Up With Your Want-To: Catching Up, Getting Organized and Staying on Track.” - The Friends of the Niceville Library will host a special presentation with nationally recognized organizing expert, Lea Schneider, owner of OrganizeRightNow.com.

Scrabble Anyone? @ Niceville Library – Wednesday, June 1 and 15 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Please keep in mind that you don’t have to be an expert to participate and all skill levels are welcome. So bring your friends or come on your own and join in the fun.


Have Fines? Pay them off with Non-Perishable Items and Canned Goods The library will be accepting canned goods and non-perishable food items this month for Sharing & Caring in lieu of fines. The value of the canned goods and non-perishable food items should be close to the amount of the fine owed.


Teen Space-Ages 13-17- Spend some time with a good read from our Teen Book collection Volunteer hours are available for your Florida Bright Futures scholarship—it’s never too soon to start! Interested in a book club? Let us know! We’ve got multiple copies of many interesting books and the space, refreshments and discussion ideas. Got requests?
